THE REFRESHING
Judy Fisher
The Church was birthed by the gift of the Father’s Promise – The Holy Spirit. Jesus had a life-changing encounter with Holy Spirit to begin His Kingdom ministry. And the church had that same life-changing encounter. Peter speaks to onlookers of a miracle, “repent and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of REFRESHING may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19).
When we moved to Houston I joined the local Women’s Aglow chapter. Five years later the Board, which I was a part of, attended The International
Women’s Aglow Conference in Los Angeles. The Coliseum was filled with women from around the world. John Wimber – one of the guest speakers–
instructed us at the end of his message to be still and quiet. And wait. No lowering the lights, no music playing. He simply invited Holy Spirit. So we
waited. And waited. And then we began to hear a soft giggle. Then another, and another, until there was uproarious laughter throughout the Coliseum – the REFRESHING being poured out. Our leader, President of the South Texas Area, became intoxicated (see Acts 1:13, 15-21). It took two women to hold her up and get her back to the hotel. It was obvious this Holy Spirit laughter had lifted her burdens.
If you are experiencing fatigue, anxiety, tension, confusion, weakness, God has a glorious, supernatural remedy: Be still. Invite Holy Spirit. Wait. Then
enjoy the REFRESHING that comes from God’s presence. It may not be intoxicating laughter, but, one thing is for sure – you will feel burdens lift and
joy will fill your heart.
Isaiah 28:12 This is the resting place, let the weary rest; this is the place of repose.
Psalms 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet (still) waters, He refreshes my soul.
1 Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.
