Single But Satisfied
Ps. Ellis Newman
Well if you read yesterday’s devotion, you know it didn’t end there. No, there were many more tears that evening and a new level of trusting God in the midst of the struggle. I knew that Jesus loved me, and I was quite sure that singleness was not my lot in life… but none the less, the struggle was real! However, it was in that moment that I surrendered my life more fully and resolved that if singleness was indeed what God had for me… then He would see me through it.
Several more years came and went but I was now able to see that my singleness was filled with opportunities and gifts. Experiences and travels presented themselves that I would simply not have been possible if I was married or had a family. So I enjoyed traveling when I could, getting
up when I wanted, and staying up as late as I pleased, and enjoying lots of home cooked meals. The meals were mostly because I had a variety of friends and their wives that wanted to make sure I didn’t go hungry! And also they didn’t want me home alone so they would invite me to eat
with the family. I occasionally took on baby sitting or projects that blessed them as well. The point is I wasn’t unhappy being single any longer. I wasn’t looking at my life as being without, but instead I embraced opportunities and possibilities. Perspective is everything! And if your glass is always half empty… I want to challenge you, while you wait, to appreciate what you have in your glass!
Psalms 100:4
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.Psalms 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
